EduPower visits NAGA CITY

Located at the very center of the region, Naga City is frequently referred to as the heart of Bicol. Its rich history, continuous progress, and good governance have made it a premier city southeast of Manila.  The Naga City Local Government has constantly endeavored to keep it at the forefront of development and high up on its priority program is quality education that is relevant to the times.

In August 2012, EduPower Publishing Corporation in cooperation with the Office of the Mayor and the Naga City School Board conducted an English Discoveries Online (EDO) Pilot Program for a select number of public school teachers in the city.  The 4-week pilot program gave a total of 34 teachers the opportunity to experience a web-based English language courseware and introduce them to a new tool for blended learning.

Before going through the course, the teacher-participants were given an orientation on the use of EDO and were assigned their courses after taking the Placement TestEnglish Discoveries Online (EDO) Placement Test is a built-in assessment component designed to ensure that learners are placed at the appropriate level of the online courses and provide a balanced picture of the learners' English skills.  It also serves as an introduction to the format and content of EDO.  EduPower’s Project Manager for ICT for Education Ms. Agnes Apostol facilitated the teacher orientation.

At the end of the pilot program, certificates of completion were awarded to all participants and apt recognition were given to teachers who showed commendable performance in their courses. Present during the graduation program was Mayor
John G. Bongat who fully supported the one-month online course as a way to enrich teachers’ communicative competence in a technology-based environment and update them on the growing trends in e-learning.

The Local Government of Naga City is the first local government in the Philippines to partner with EduPower Publishing Corporation in providing English Discoveries Online (EDO), an English language learning solution using cutting-edge technology in creating a flexible, comprehensive mode of instruction that suits a wide range of learning styles and abilities.
